Introduction

What follows are my favorite daily vocal prayers. I'm including them here so that you can take inspiration from them. Pick out the prayers you like, add to your own routine, and leave the rest!

These are mostly traditional prayers, with the exception of a few I wrote myself (taking inspiration from traditional prayers), and many are indulgenced. Notes regarding each of the prayers are included in the footnotes at the bottom of each section.

The amount of prayers you see here may seem like a lot, but it did not start out this way. I gradually worked up to this, starting by reciting the rosary every day, then adding the Auxilium Christianorum prayers, then slowly adding one new prayer at a time.

It is possible to have a strong prayer life, even if you are a very busy mother!

In my experience, prayer gives me "wings" to carry me through the day. The more time I spend in prayer, the more time I seem to have. My day goes more smoothly, and I am not so tired or overwhelmed.

That's not to say that you won't have challenges, but the challenges will seem light. Every burden is lighter and sweeter when you make time to pray!

I should note that I don't usually get through every single prayer you see listed here every day. Fulfilling your duties according to your state in life (for us housewives, that means putting food on the table, doing the dishes, changing diapers, etc.) are equally important, and can be even greater prayers in and of themselves when offered to God with love!

Basic Latin Prayers

Some of the indulgenced prayers below have a few basic prayers in Latin, so I am including the words here for your reference.

Signum Crucis (Sign of the Cross)

In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.

Pater Noster (Our Father)

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Ave Maria (Hail Mary)

Per Dominum (Conclusion of Prayers)

If the prayer is directed to the Father:

Per Dóminum nostrum Iesum Christum Fílium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitáte Spíritus Sancti, Deus, per ómnia sǽcula sæculórum. Amen. (Through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.)

If it is directed to the Father, but the Son is already mentioned at the end:

Morning Prayers

Holy Face Prayer Upon Waking

Kiss an image of the Holy Face of Jesus¹ and say:

Lord, show us thy Face, and we shall be saved.

Sealing Prayer of Protection

Sign yourself (with holy water if possible) saying:

I ask Jesus to seal me in His most Precious Blood against any and all incursions of the evil one, in particular against any clinging, familial, familiar or retaliating spirits, in the Name of the Father and of the Son ✠ and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Morning Offering

Based on three revelations of Our Lord to St. Mechtilde and two mystics²

Dear Lord, I adore thy Sacred Heart, which I desire to enter with acts of love, praise, adoration, and thanksgiving. I offer Thee my own heart as I sigh to Thee from its very depths, asking that Thou will worketh through me in all that I do this day; thus may I draw Thee closer to me than Thou wert before. I offer Thee all the crosses and sufferings of the world, in union with thy life on earth, in expiation for sins. Please join my every action and heartbeat to the pulsations of thy Heart. I unite all my works of this day to those labors Thou didst perform while Thou wert on earth, bathing them in thy Precious Blood, and I offer them to the Heavenly Father so that many souls may be saved.

Desire to Gain Indulgences

O my Jesus, I desire to day to gain every indulgence and merit I can and I offer them, together with myself, to Mary Immaculate, that she may best apply them in the interests of thy Most Sacred Heart.

An Act of Faith

O MY GOD, I firmly believe that Thou art one God in Three Divine Persons, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I believe that Thy Divine Son became Man, and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because Thou hast revealed them, Who canst neither deceive nor be deceived.

An Act of Hope

O MY GOD, relying on Thy almighty power and infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of Thy grace, and Life Everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.

An Act of Charity

O MY GOD, I love Thee above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because Thou art all-good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of Thee. I forgive all who have injured me, and ask pardon of all whom I have injured.

Act of Rejection

I completely and utterly reject, with the full force of my will N. (insert any disorder one is experiencing or any evil one has committed). I do this in the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary and in the Name of the Father and of the Son ✠ and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. (Thrice)

Guardian Angel Prayer

Saint Gertrude (with a small addition³)

O most holy angel of God, appointed by God to be my guardian, I love thee and I give thee thanks for all the benefits which thou hast ever bestowed on me in body and in soul. I praise and glorify thee that thou condescended to assist me with such patient fidelity, and to defend me against all the assaults of my enemies. Blessed be the hour in which thou wast assigned me for my guardian, my defender and my patron.

Help me to recall my resolutions throughout this day, especially in those moments when I am being tempted to sin. Reveal to me my primary defect and humiliate me, so that I may overcome all of my vices and grow in every virtue.

In acknowledgement and return for all thy loving ministries to me, I offer thee the infinitely precious and noble heart of Jesus, and firmly purpose to obey thee henceforward, and most faithfully to serve my God. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Cardinal Mercier

For five minutes control your imagination and close your eyes to all the noises of the world in order to enter into yourself. Then, in the sanctuary of your baptized soul (which is the temple of the Holy Spirit) speak to that Divine Spirit, saying to Him:

O Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul, I adore Thee. Enlighten me, guide me, strengthen me, console me. Tell me what I should do. Give me Thy orders. I promise to submit myself to all that Thou desires of me and accept all that Thou permits to happen to me. Let me only know Thy Will.

Prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas to Blessed Virgin Mary

O most blessed and most sweet Virgin Mary, full of mercy, to thy compassion I recommend my soul and body, my thoughts, actions, life, and death. O my Lady, help and strengthen me against the snares of the devil; obtain me true and perfect love, with which to love thy most beloved Son and my Lord Jesus Christ with my whole heart, and after Him to love thee above all things. My Queen and Mother, by thy most powerful intercession, grant that I may persevere in this love until death, and after death be conducted by thee to the kingdom of the blessed.

Petition for St. Joseph’s Blessing

Bless me, Oh dearly beloved father, St. Joseph; bless my body and my soul; bless my resolutions, my words and deeds, all my actions and omissions, my every step; bless all that I possess, all my interior and exterior goods, that all may redound to the greater honor of God. Bless me for time and eternity, and preserve me from every sin. Obtain for me the grace to make atonement for all my sins by love and contrition here on earth, so that after my last breath I may, without delay, prostrate at thy feet return thee thanks in heaven for all the love and goodness thou, O dearest father, hast shown me here below. Amen.

Nine Days Novena to St. Joseph⁴

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God. I place in you all my interests and desires. Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for me.

Prayer to obtain the virtue of Humility

St, Philip, my glorious Patron, who on earth didst so love humility as to count the praise and even the good esteem of men as dross; obtain for me also this virtue by thy prayers. Thou knowest how haughty I am in my thoughts, how contemptuous in my words, how ambitious in my doings. Ask for me humility of heart; that my mind may be freed from all pride, and impressed with the same low esteem of self which thou hadst of thyself, counting thyself the worst of all men, and for that reason rejoicing when thou didst suffer contempt, and seeking out for thyself occasions of enduring it. Great Saint, obtain for me a true humble heart and the knowledge of my own nothingness; that I may rejoice when I am despised, and resent not when others are preferred before me; that I may never be vain when I am praised, but may ever seek only to be great in the eyes of God, desiring to receive from Him alone all my exaltation.

Prayer to obtain the Love of God

St. Philip, I am filled with wonder at the great miracle which was wrought in thee by the Holy Spirit when He poured into thy heart such a flood of heavenly charity, that in order to contain it two of thy ribs were broken by the power of Divine love; and I am confounded when I compare thy heart with mine own. I see thy heart all burning with love; and mine, all frozen and taken up with creatures. I see thine inflamed with a fire from heaven, which so filled thy body that it radiated like flames from thy countenance; while mine is full of earthly love. I love the world, which allures me and can never make me happy; I love the flesh, which ever wears me with its cares, and can never render me immortal; I love riches, which I can enjoy but for a moment. O when shall I learn of thee to love nothing but God, my incomprehensible and only Good! Help me, then, blessed Patron, that by thy intercession I may begin at once: obtain for me an efficacious love, manifesting itself by works; a pure love, making me to love God most perfectly; a strong love, enabling me to surmount all obstacles hindering my union with God in life, that so I may be wholly united to Him for ever after my death.

Instruction given by St. Joseph to Sister Mildred (Mary Ephrem) Neuzil in 1958:

“I am the protector of the Church and the home, as I was the protector of Christ and His Mother while I lived upon earth. Jesus and Mary desire that my pure heart, so long hidden and unknown, be now honored in a special way. Let my children honor my most pure heart in a special manner on the First Wednesday of the month by reciting the Joyful Mysteries of the rosary in memory of my life with Jesus and Mary and the love I bore them, the sorrow I suffered with them. Let them receive Holy Communion in union with the love with which I received the Savior for the first time and each time I held Him in my arms. Those who honor me in this way will be consoled by my presence at their death, and I myself will conduct them safely into the presence of Jesus and Mary. I will come again, little child of my most pure heart. Until then, continue in patience and humility, which is so pleasing to God.”

Prayer to obtain detachment from temporal goods

Great Saint, who didst prefer a poor and austere life to the comforts of thy home, despising the honour and glory of thy station; obtain for me grace ever to keep my heart detached from transitory goods of this life. St. Philip, whose desire it ever was to become so poor as one day to have to beg thy bread, and find no charitable hand to offer thee a crumb wherewith to support life; ask of God for me such love of poverty that I may turn all my thoughts to goods which never fail. St. Philip, who didst prefer to live unknown, to promotion to the highest honours of the Church; intercede for me, that I may never seek after dignities, but always content myself with that state where God has set me. My heart is too anxious for the empty fleeting things of earth; but thou - ah, what a maxim didst thou leave us by thy two words: "And then-" ! O wonder-working words! may they ever be deeply impressed upon my soul; that, despising the nothingness of earth, God alone may reign sole object of my affections and my thoughts.

Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

St. Claude de la Colombiere

My adorable Redeemer, I give and consecrate myself totally to Thy Sacred Heart in the fullest and most complete way of which I am capable. Nail me to Thy Cross by my Baptismal Promises, by the duties of my state of life and by my resolution to serve you always. I renew all these before heaven and earth in Thy Sacred Heart. Thy holy service is for me an easy yoke and its bonds do not burden me. Moreover, I would desire to fasten even more closely its tight knots. Therefore, I embrace the beloved cross of my vocation even unto death. It shall be all my delight, my pleasure, my glory. God forbid that I should glory, save in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. Thy poverty shall be my treasure; Thy sufferings my delight; Thy Person, my only love. I will never abandon Thee, my Savior; I will unite myself intimately with Thee. I do not fear the narrow path of holiness, because Thou art my light and my strength. Prayer to obtain perseverance in good works

St. Philip, my holy Patron, who, ever constant in good works and full of merit, didst receive from Most High God the crown of glory in reward of all thy labours; obtain for me grace never to weary in His service. St. Philip, who didst recompense those who loved thee by acquiring for them the gift of perseverance in good, ask of God this gift for me; stand by me, dear father, at the last moment of my life, and pray for me that I may depart this life strengthened with the grace of the Holy Sacraments. Meanwhile intercede for me, that I may do penance for my sins, and deplore them bitterly all my days. St. Philip, who from on high beholdest all my miseries, and the chains which yet bind me to my sins and to this earth; pray for me that I may be liberated from them, and be constantly devoted to my God. Obtain for me an ardent desire to co-operate in my own salvation, and unshaken firmness in the good which I have begun; that so by thy intercession I may deserve to be for ever in thy company in an eternity of bliss.

Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

O Most Holy Mary, Virgin Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, in accordance with thy wish made known at Fatima, I consecrate myself today to thine Immaculate Heart. To thee I entrust all that I have, all that I am, to thy blessed charge and special keeping and into thine Immaculate Heart. For this day, for every day of my life, and at the hour of my death, I commend my soul and body.

To thee do I entrust all my hopes and consolations, all my trials and miseries, my life and the end of my life, that through thy most holy intercession and thy merits all my actions may be ordered and disposed according to thy will, and that of thy Divine Son.

Reign over me dearest Mother, that I may be thine in prosperity, in adversity, in health and in sickness, in life and in death. Grant that I may have no other spirit but thy spirit, to know Jesus Christ and His Divine and Holy Will; that I may have no other soul but thy soul, to praise and glorify the Lord; that I may have no other heart but thy heart, to love God with a pure and burning love like thine.

My beloved Mother, my glorious Queen, I am all thine and all that I have is thine. Amen.

This can be an ever growing list– as you learn about a new saint who you want to build a relationship with, you can add them here. For example:

Prayer for the Dying and a Special Soul

O most merciful Jesus, lover of souls, I beseech Thee, by the agony of Thy most Sacred Heart, and by the sorrows of Thine Immaculate Mother, wash clean in Thy Blood the sinners of the whole world who are to die this day. Remember most especially the soul I spiritually adopt with the intention of entrusting him or her to Thy Shepherd's care: I beseech Thee for the grace to move this sinner, who is in danger of going to Hell, to repent. I ask this because of my trust in Thy great mercy. If it should please Thy Majesty to send me a suffering this day in exchange for the grace I ask for this soul, then, it, too, shall please me very much, and I thank Thee, Most Sweet Jesus, Shepherd and Lover of Souls; I thank Thee for this opportunity to give mercy in thanksgiving for all the mercies Thou hast shown me. Amen.

Archconfraternity of the Holy Face members are recommended to wear on their persons a picture of the Holy Face, to kiss it devoutly the 1st thing in the morning on awaking and at night before going to sleep, to consecrate their actions during the day to the divine Face, and to resolve to perform them in its presence and before its eyes. 3. I have added the paragraph beginning with "Help me to recall..." because in mental prayer (it is recommended to do at least 15 minutes of mental prayer per day, aside from vocal prayer), it is important to make resolutions (i.e. specific ways that we intend to do better), but I tend to promptly forget those resolutions the very next day. So, it helps me to ask my guardian angel to help me remember my resolutions throughout the day. I've also added the request to "reveal to me my primary defect and humiliate me," upon the advice of exorcist priest, Fr. Chad Ripperger... our guardian angels know us better than we know ourselves, so who better to ask for help in rooting out our vices and imperfections!

4. This prayer was found in the fifteenth year of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In 1505 it was sent from the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle. Whoever shall read this prayer or hear it or keep it about themselves, shall never die a sudden death, or be drowned, not shall poison take effect of them; neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy; or shall be burned in any fire, or shall be overpowered in battle. Say for nine mornings for anything you may desire. It has never been known to fail, so be sure you really want what you ask.

Communion Prayers

[From the Raccolta] To the faithful who make an act of spiritual Communion, using any formula they may choose, there is granted: An indulgence of 3 years; A plenary indulgence once a month on the usual conditions when the act is performed every day of the month (S.P. Spiritual Communion

St. Alphonsus Liguori

My Jesus, I believe that Thou art in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love Thee above all things, and in my soul I desire Thee. Since I cannot receive Thee now sacramentally, come at least spiritually to my heart. I embrace Thee as already there and unite myself wholly to Thee; do not permit that I may ever be separated from Thee.

Suscipe Prayer

St. Ignatius of Loyola

Receive, O Lord, all my liberty. Take my memory, my understanding, and my entire will. Whatever I have or possess Thou hast bestowed upon me; I give it all back to Thee and surrender it wholly to be governed by Thy Will. Give me love for Thee alone along with Thy grace, and I am rich enough and ask for nothing more.

Prayer to Overcome Evil Passions and to Become a Saint

Dear Jesus, in the Sacrament of the Altar, be forever thanked and praised. Love, worthy of all celestial and terrestrial love! Who, out of infinite love for me, ungrateful sinner, didst assume our human nature, didst shed Thy Most Precious Blood in the cruel scourging, and didst expire on a shameful cross for our eternal welfare! Give me, I beseech thee, O Holy Spirit, Giver of all good gifts, that powerful grace which converts the stony hearts of mortals into burning furnaces of love. Prayer for Protection Against Chastisements³

If it pleases thy Divine Majesty to use our family in the restoration of thy Holy Church, vouchsafe to spare us from thy chastisements. We consecrate our home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and we beseech Thee to drive far from it all the snares of the enemy. Let thy holy angels dwell therein so as to preserve us in peace. Pass over this house, spare it’s occupants, and make a path for us to a safe place if Thou wills that we should move.

Just as Thou led the Holy Family into Egypt when Herod was intent on killing thy Divine Son, send thy angels to accompany us to wherever Thou wills that we should go, where, like Noah, we will trust in thy mercy to be shielded from thy just wrath.

If it is not thy will that we survive thy chastisements, give us the grace to be admitted without delay into thy kingdom. Oh how I long to fall prostrate at thy feet and to kiss the wounds of thy passion, bathing them with tears of joy and thanksgiving! To be refused this joy, and to be rather separated from Thee, even temporarily in Purgatory, would be far more painful than any earthly suffering! Therefore, I accept everything that Thou permits to happen to us. Only grant us perseverance in suffering, perfect contrition for our sins, and large hearts to love Thee.

Most merciful Master, soon give thy angel St. Michael the order to end these tribulations. Raise up thy Holy Church from this present oblivion, so that thy Holy Name may be praised throughout all the earth once again!

O God, bless us with a large family. Bless us with many holy children with many vocations among them for thy glory. I offer [names of children], and any other children Thou sees fit to give us, to Thee for Thy service. They are thine; do with them what Thou wilt.

Supplication to the Virgin of Revelation¹ To Obtain Any Grace

Most Holy Virgin of the Revelation, thou who art so close to the Divine Trinity, deign we beg thee; turn thy merciful and kind glance towards us. Oh Mary! I, your beloved Jesus, wish you, my dearly beloved daughter, to ask all of my followers to heed my Instructions. Look to each member of your own family, those, among your midst, who do not follow

my Teachings. Look, amongst you, for those souls lost to Me, who outwardly reject Me. Then I ask

that you pray hard for them at this time. You must beg for Mercy for their souls. Your prayers and

sacrifices can save them from a terrible suffering during the Purification at The Warning. The

Warning, while not to be feared and must be welcomed as my special Gift, will cause pain in those

who are not in a state of grace. Prepare your souls beforehand, for healthy souls will find The

Warning a Joyous Event. They will not suffer because they will be in a state of grace, especially if

they receive the Sacrament of Confession regularly. Their strength will help those who must go

through the pain of Purgatory, after The Warning. Help those who will not listen through the daily

recital of my Divine Mercy Chaplet. Offer a sacrifice, to Me, Your Jesus, in reparation for the sins of

your families. I will show Mercy to everyone who accepts the black state of their souls, when they are

shown their sins during The Warning. Only those with genuine humility and a pure heart will be

forgiven. Those, including children who forsake Me, are in desperate need of your prayers.

O dear sweet Jesus, I beg for mercy for the souls of my family.

beloved Son, Jesus Christ, they must never doubt the real intentions of those who

demand this of them. When they are asked to renounce the meaning of the Holy

Eucharist and accept a new interpretation, they will know then that the hour has

come. I desire that all priests, who will have to face these sorrowful trials, recite this

Crusade Prayer ...

O beloved Mother of Salvation, help me in my moment of need. Pray that I am

blessed with the Gifts poured down upon my unworthy soul by the power of the

Holy Spirit to defend the truth at all times. Sustain me in every incident where I

am asked to deny the truth, the Word of God, the Holy Sacraments and the most

holy Eucharist. Help me to use the graces I receive to stand firm against the

wickedness of Satan and all those poor souls he uses to defile your Son, Jesus

O Dearest Father, O Eternal One, God the Most High, make me worthy of your Love. Please

forgive me for hurting others and for any wrong-doing, which has caused suffering to any of

your children. Open my heart so that I can welcome you into my soul, and cleanse me of any

hatred I may feel against another person. Help me to forgive my enemies and to sow the seeds

of your Love everywhere I go and amongst those whom I meet every day. Give me, Dear

Dearest Jesus, by your compassion and mercy, I beg you for the salvation of those who have

rejected you, who deny your existence, who deliberately oppose your Holy Word and whose

bitter hearts have poisoned their souls against the light and the truth of your divinity. Have

mercy on all sinners. Forgive those who blaspheme against the Holy Trinity and help me, in

my own way, and through my personal sacrifices, to embrace within your loving arms, those

O Dear Lord, my beloved Jesus Christ, hold me, protect me. Keep me in the

light of your face, as my persecution intensifies, when my only sin is to uphold

the truth, the Holy Word of God. Help me to find the courage to serve you

faithfully at all times. Give me your courage and your strength, as I fight to

defend your teachings against fierce opposition. Never desert me, Jesus, in my

time of need and provide me with everything I need to continue to serve you

through the provision of the Holy Sacraments and your Precious Body and
